It all started when....
THE GREAT EAST JAPAN EARTHQUAKE HAPPENED ON MARCH 11, 2011.
Our leather is specifically sourced from the Kesen-numa area that suffered the most damage from this natural disaster.
In an effort to revitalize the local community we started "Atelier Shark" in 2016. By showcasing our local products and story to the world we can help restore social and financial prosperity to the Kesen-numa region and reduce the dependence on charitable organizations.
Recovering from a disaster does not just involve re-building infrastructure. Recovery in Kesen-numa involves getting back to "daily life", creating social well being, educational outlets and employment opportunities.
We started this project to achieve long-term restoration in the Kesen-numa area. We believe that, continuous and self-sustaining economy is critical for the long-term prosperity in Kesen-numa.
